Mr. Bedig officially became the owner of the 106.04 kg ROYAL BLUE SAPPHIRE on June 16, 2026, under Texas State Law. It is a natural object to be documented, protected and introduced to the world with the significance its physical presence demands.
Experts say a stone of this size, described as royal blue in color, has an estimated wholesale rough, as-is value of between $800 million and $1.2 billion in the international market.
Dr. Klaus Schollenbruch states that he has never seen a natural sapphire of this size with no indication of heating and estimates that it formed around 400 million years ago.
